Slept like the dead last night … warm, dry, clean, and on a mattress—heaven.
Yet another nasty weather system headed this way (seriously?!). Spent the morning checking weather forecasts & decided to take a second day in Oracle to wait it out. Spent the afternoon adjusting the itinerary since Parker has to go back to work on Monday and we have learned that our youngest son’s university is closing down for COVID-19 prevention (It was nice to be oblivious to the real world for a while). Bottom Line: We’re planning to be to leave Oracle Friday morning and hike for 2 days together before Parker has to return to real life.
Around all the planning & logistical gymnastics, we hit the Dollar General store for headlamp batteries, more ibuprofen—a true trail necessity for “mature” hikers—and a few other supplies. And we made it back to the local Mexican restaurant that provided last night’s taco feast.
I consider myself somewhat of a breakfast burrito connoisseur, and I’m telling you, this place makes the best breakfast burrito I have ever eaten—ham, bacon, chorizo, cheese and homemade flour tortilla with fire-roasted salsa—I will be dreaming about this burrito for days down the trail! Parker had an omelette that looked equally amazing. Not only was it delicious, it was enough food for breakfast and lunch … guess where we’re going for dinner? (Don’t judge—hiker hunger is for real!)
Since we’re without wheels & the thunderstorms come in tonight, tomorrow looks like a lazy day hanging out in The Chalet, reading on my Kindle app, noshing on leftovers & prepping for the next leg. I’m officially a fan of zero days.
