Day 7: Las Colinas and Las Cienegas

Good Day!
I went over 100 miles just after lunch, which was a nice boost!
The landscape changed dramatically about a mile after this morning’s start—I’m now in the desert! This is much more what I expected this section to be like.
Desert Flora & Fauna abound … pictures of some of the flora below … the fauna was less willing to pose for me. Saw a roadrunner (no coyotes yet), some kind of desert rat, lots of ground-nesting birds and several spiders (I sure NONE of which will make it into my tent tonight!).
The wind picked up big time around noon. That combined w/complete lack of trees and rocky terrain, had me worried about tent set up tonight. Fortunately, I found a little spot just big enough for my tent that is surrounded by creosote bushes to mitigate the wind somewhat.
I enjoyed a glorious sunset while eating my white bean & kale stew (don’t judge, … its not terrible). Even better, I’m enjoying it w/out shivering in my coat & gloves—it’s a balmy 60ish right now, and even w/the wind, it’s pleasant. 2500’ of elevation drop makes a big difference!

Daily Miles: 23.5
Total Miles: 114.2
