Dang last night was cold!! Froze all of our water bottles solid. Even though the sun came out, I never got warm—still feels like winter up on the Kaibab Plateau.
Between the cold and the motivation of knowing this was the last day, we moved pretty fast all morning. Right after lunch we were treated to our first real views of The Vermillion Cliffs and The Wave, and about 2 miles before the finish the views opened up, and the views down off the Plateau were spectacular. It was the perfect way to wrap up this adventure!
As usual with these kind of epic adventures, the finish was anti-climactic—when the adventure is epic, it’s impossible for the finish to measure up. We signed the registry (only one other person made it through to the end so far this year), took some pictures, and climbed in the car to head home.
I’ll post final wrap-up thoughts and gear conclusions/review when I get home & have some time to synthesize my thoughts. Bottom line is that I set out to do something hard, something epic, something life-changing … this trail delivered!
