Today was fun & relatively uneventful. For the first time n a long time, I was not checking my Guthook app every 20 min to see how far I’d gone, or to calculate mph and/or how far I was likely to get. Having Whippet as a partner has changed my hiking ( in a good way). We chatted about a wide variety of topics to include his amazing story of breaking and REbreaking his hip.
There were climbs ( lots of them), but nothing really long or really steep. Lots of up & the same amount of down—We are sleeping at an altitude writhing 50 feet of yesterday’s altitude. At the top of just about every climb was a gorgeous view of Roosevelt Lake. I wouldn’t say we got tired of the view, but it was nice when we started getting views of granite boulders & the Manzanitas.
Clouds came in at lunchtime and the wind really picked up. I was cold while hiking for the first time since the day I left Patagonia in the rain. Thankfully, the rain seems to have held off—at least long enough for us to set up camp & eat dinner.
We found another lovely camp spot next to a stream. Multiple truly flat spots for our tents & even sheltered a bit from the wind. Whippet is definitely good luck!
